Community Guidelines
Welcome to Mello. Our mission is to help people connect in the real world — and to make sure that experience is safe, respectful, and genuinely good. By joining Mello, you agree to these Community Guidelines, which form part of our Terms of Service.
We take these seriously. If you violate our guidelines, we may remove your content, warn you, suspend your account, or permanently ban you from Mello, depending on the severity and history of the violation.
1. Community Norms
- Not a Dating App — Mello is for meeting people and doing things together, not for romantic or sexual pursuits. Using Mello to message others with romantic intentions will result in a permanent ban.
- Be Respectful — Treat every member of the Mello community with kindness. Harassment, bullying, intimidation, and threats are strictly prohibited.
- No Hate Speech — We do not tolerate hate speech or dehumanizing content of any kind — based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, nationality, or any other characteristic.
- Be Authentic — Use your real name and real photos. Creating fake profiles, impersonating others, or misrepresenting your age or identity is not allowed.
- Keep It Appropriate — Do not share explicit, vulgar, or sexually provocative content. Unsolicited explicit images or messages are strictly forbidden.
2. Prohibited Conduct
- Violence and Misconduct — Acts of violence, threats, stalking, or any form of physical or sexual misconduct are strictly prohibited — on the app and at Mello events.
- Sexual Content — Do not share explicit or sexually provocative content. Sex work promotion is not permitted.
- Minors — Mello is for users 18 and older. Do not share photos of or arrange contact with anyone under 18.
- Illegal Activity — Engaging in or promoting illegal activities — including drug sale or distribution — is forbidden.
- Fraud and Scams — Deceptive or fraudulent behavior is not allowed. This includes soliciting money, misrepresenting yourself for financial gain, or any attempt to deceive other users.
- Spam and Promotional Content — Mello is not a marketplace. Do not send bulk messages, unsolicited promotional content, or low-effort mass outreach.
- Harmful Content — Content that promotes self-harm, violence, or illegal activity is strictly prohibited.
- Platform Manipulation — Do not use bots, VPNs, scraping tools, or any method to manipulate the platform or circumvent account bans.
3. Profiles
- Your profile photo must be of you and only you.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use Mello.
- Do not include sensitive personal information — financial details, phone numbers, home addresses, or email addresses — in your bio.
- Your profile name must be your real name or a genuine nickname, not a pseudonym or another person's name.
4. Chats
- Protect your privacy. Do not share or request personal information like phone numbers, addresses, or emails in public chats.
- Avoid sharing detailed personal location information — where you're staying, your daily routine, or your arrival times.
- Keep event coordination within the Mello app rather than moving to external channels prematurely.
5. At Mello Events
- Events are for Mello users only. Do not invite non-users or bring along uninvited guests without the host's permission.
- No one under 18 may attend a Mello event.
- Events must comply with local laws, including regulations around alcohol and public gatherings.
- Meet in public spaces. Tell a friend or family member where you're going. Trust your instincts.
- Hosts must provide accurate and timely event details. Attendees should review details carefully before showing up.
- If you need to cancel, notify others promptly. Repeated last-minute cancellations or no-shows may result in account suspension.
- Participants are responsible for their own costs at events. Mello does not facilitate payment between users.
- Mello is not responsible for user conduct or outcomes at in-person events. Users participate at their own discretion and risk.
6. Blocking and Reporting
If there is an emergency in progress, contact local emergency services immediately.
If you feel uncomfortable with another user's behavior, you can block them directly from their profile or conversation. Once blocked, they will no longer be able to contact you or view your profile. Blocking a user does not automatically report them — if they have violated our guidelines, please report them through the app for further review.
If you witness any content or conduct that violates these guidelines, on the app or at an event — report it immediately.
Misuse of the blocking feature to harass or inconvenience others is itself a violation of these guidelines and may result in suspension or termination.
